Post Cycle Therapy

All About PCT (Post Cycle Therapy)

Many bodybuilders jump into the world of prohormones enthusiastically, yet they tend to overlook the very important aspect of post cycle therapy. Post cycle therapy (or PCT) is a vital part of a successful prohormone cycle, as it not only ensures that you retain the growth you gained with the prohormones, but it also protects and regulates your body while hormone levels are imbalanced post-cycle.

What is PCT?

Prohormones work by stimulating the production of hormone levels in the body, generally increasing them significantly higher than normal. When this happens, the body responds by decreasing natural hormone production in an attempt to bring the body back to normal levels. This can often result in natural hormone production that is far below normal.

When the external stimulant (the prohormone) is removed at the end of a cycle, there is a resulting anticipated side-effect that your body is not producing nearly enough natural hormones. So for awhile, your body can be severely lacking in its hormone balance.

Post cycle therapy is a regimen of supplements that will help to quickly balance the body’s hormone levels and bring them back to normal. Without PCT, that period of low hormone levels can cause you to rapidly lose any gains you made.

How does it work?

Post cycle therapy utilizes two compound categories to restore hormone levels: Estrogen boosting compounds and testosterone boosting compounds. We’ll quickly discuss the supplements that fall into these two categories.

Testosterone boosting compounds:

– Tribulus Terrestris is a plant extract that naturally raises testosterone levels and promotes healthy hormone production.

Zinc and Magnesium Aspartate have proven to be effective in boosting testosterone production. A daily dose of 30mg of zinc and 450mg of magnesium can boost testosterone levels by up to 30%.

– D-Aspartic Acid is an amino acid that has proven to raise testosterone production by up to 40%.

To properly balance the hormone levels in your body, a PCT product needs to also control estrogen production:

White button mushrooms (WBM) have been proven in breast cancer studies to lower estrogen levels significantly.

– Trans Resveratrol helps by controlling aromatase, the enzyme that changes testosterone to estrogen.

– 6-Bromo also inhibits aromatase, preventing testosterone from converting to estrogen too quickly.

An effective PCT

Prohormones can have some unpleasant side effects, including liver damage, acne, and of course, hormone imbalance. Thus, it’s unwise to skip out on post cycle therapy. You’ll not only lose the gains you’ve made, but you’ll be putting your body at risk.

Plan to be on a PCT for about four weeks, directly following a cycle of prohormones. The best products will include the key supplements that we discussed above, and most will last for the duration of one cycle. In addition, it’s a good idea to purchase your PCT product at the same time as you get your prohormones so that you can quickly transfer from one to the other, thus minimizing any damage to your body.
